Ikenna Offor believes Nasarawa United will improve in their next match in the 2023 Nigeria Premier League season, after they lost their first home game to Enyimba International.
Nasarawa United lost 1-2 to Enyimba International in their match day one of the 2023 Nigeria Premier League season.
The match was played at the New Jos Stadium, where Nasarawa United will be playing their home games this season, the home side going down by two goals in the first half.
Akanni Elijah put the People’s Elephant in front in the 32nd minute from a long-range effort that caught Yinka David in no man’s land.
Imoh Obot made it 2-0 in the 37th minute from a dead ball situation.
Nasarawa United was awarded a late penalty in the game but Enyimba’s goalkeeper was on hand to save Ikenna Offor’s kick but Oche Josiah headed in the rebound.
Reacting after the match, Ikenna said it was the first match of the season and a lot of players were making their debut but insisted the team will improve.
“It’s our first league match and some of our players are making their debut, so we are not yet a finished article. But I believe we would improve in our next match and give it our best.
On why his team had a better performance in the second half, he said, at halftime, the coach told them to go all out and make their presence felt and with the substitutions, it nearly paid off.
Ikenna expects more from himself and said the season is too early to call for now.
