NSF Torch of Unity arrives Jos, as PLSG promises athletes adequate preparation

The Plateau State Government has assured athletes in the state preparing for the National Sports Festival, tagged “Delta 2022”, of adequate preparation for the festival.

Hon. Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hon. Dung Daniel Dalyop, who represented the Governor, made this pledge when he received the Torch of Unity in Jos today.

The Commissioner pointed out that Plateau State is ready for the festival and will continue to promote sports and peace for development.

According to Dalyop, “The state is poised to ensure that athletes are prepared for the festival as the state has learned from previous times where athletes were not properly mobilized for the festival as they have an eleven-step plan to ensure that Team Plateau becomes a force to be reckoned with not just at the Delta 2022 Sports Festival but in the nation and world at large”.

Earlier while presenting the Torch to the representative of the Plateau State Governor, Zonal Coordinator, Federal Ministry of Youth & Sports, Deborah Pitmang said the Torch symbolizes Peace, Unity, and Friendship. She said that where ever the Torch has been that there were no conversations on Tribe, Religion just talks of sports which unite all.

She asked the Plateau Government to motivate the athletes as athletes who are motivated will always give an ace performance.

The commissioner then handed over the Torch to the Zonal Coordinator for onward movement to the North East Zone with Bauchi State being the first state to receive the Torch in the Zone.

The Torch of Unity usually travels around the 36 states of the federation with the take-off point being the Federal Capital Territory where the President lights the Torch and thereafter the Journey of the Torch commences.

The Torch has gone round the 5 other States of the North Central Zone where it moved from Niger to Kwara, Kogi, Benue, and Nasarawa States with Plateau State being the grand finale for the Zone.

For Plateau State, the Torch Bearer is two time Gold medalist in 5000 Meters Rose Akusho who bore the torch to the Deputy Governor’s office where it was handed over to the state Government.
