NPFL: Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu gets first win as Plateau United beat Kwara United

Mohammed Zulkifilu’s 5th minute goal was all Plateau United needed to hand new coach Fidelis Ilechukwu his first win as Plateau United Technical Adviser.

Plateau United beat Kwara United 1-0 in the Match Day 2 Boxing Day fixture of the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

The encounter played at the New Jos Stadium got into an interesting start with Plateau United getting the first two chances of the game in the opening 3 minutes which they failed to convert.

It didn’t take long after those two chances for Zulkifilu Muhammad to score the opener for Plateau United in the 5th minute with a cool finish from Daniel Itodo’s throwing.

Things got more interesting after, with Kwara United dominating and creating plethora of Clear cut chances but failed to convert them.

Junior Lokosa got the best chance of the game for Kwara United before halftime but he failed to find the target after he dinked the ball over the goalkeeper.

The second half started with both teams creating little chances and passing the ball around.

Ruben Bala came close to scoring the second goal of the day in the 57th minute but his shot from outside of the box was saved by Kwara United’s goalkeeper, Dele Aiyenugba.

Afterwards, the game became a ding-dong affair before the referee blew the final whistle to end the game.

The victory did not come without a cost as Plateau United lost defender Andrew Ikefe to injury as early as the 7th minute with Golbe Elisha replacing him.

Plateau United next face MFM of Lagos in a Mid Week match day 3 fixture in Lagos. Recall Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu had his best coaching spell with MFM some seasons ago taking them to the continent.
