The Gubernatorial candidate of the ANPP, Hon. Khamsi Mailantarki, was a surprise guest at the opening ceremony of the 7th Edition of the Adamu Yola Gombe South Unity Cup.
Recall that Hon. Khamsi Mailantarki is the President of Mailantarki Care Football Club.
An elated Mailantarki expressed satisfaction with the organizers of the tournament. He was excited to see so many teams involved in the tournament and said, “I love to see young people do things excellently. For me, this is the best tournament I have witnessed in a long while. I will discuss more with the organizers on collaborations with Mailantarki Care Sports Agency to see where we can be of beneficial assistance.”
He went further to say, “I will love to play the winners of the tournament and a selected best team of the tournament. My plan is to have a team made up of Gombe youths that will attend international tournaments that will give them the necessary exposure and opportunity to make a living from playing football.”
The LOC Chairman, Promise Uwaeme, in response said, “We are open to collaborations that will create opportunities for the youths of Gombe state to excel in sports, particularly football. Beyond organizing this tournament where talents are discovered, we also nurture and expose them to better facilities and environment.”
The opening match which was played at the Olusegun Obasanjo Stadium in Kaltungo, yesterday 5th of November 2022, saw Highlanders FC Ture beating the defending champions Pokwangli 1-0 to take all 3 points.
The 7th Edition of the Adamu Yola Gombe South Unity Cup will have 75 teams participating with the preliminary rounds taking place in Biliri, Balanga, Shongom, and Kaltungo local governments.
