Local Club Sides In Gombe Setting The Pace In Nigerian Football Business

A lot has been said about how football business in Nigeria is run poorly or shrouded in secrecy by our football administrators.

There seems to be hope of doing football business professionally as a local club side in Gombe state has set the bench mark for the clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and the Nigeria National League (NNL).

On the 3rd of July, 2022 Nassarawo FC of Gombe completed the signing of Muhammad Kabir Musa, a striker from FC Zenith for the initial sum of Fifteen Thousand Naira (#15,000) and a further Eleven Thousand Five Hundred Naira (#11,500) in add-ons.

The 21-year-old striker will now continue his football development at Nassarawo FC.

The uniqueness of this signing is that details and documents were made available to the public which is unusual in the Nigerian Football ecosystem.

After the signing, the player was presented to the fans of the club at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe.

What this transfer deal at this local level has shown to our football administrators is that, football business in Nigeria can move from its current level of mediocrity to the next level of full professionalism and profit making.
