FIRST NATIONAL PARA GAMES GETS UNDERWAY WITH PLATEAU MAKING A GOOD START

The first edition of the National Para Games commenced on the 9th April, 2022 at the Moshood Abiola National stadium, Abuja.

Plateau state alongside twenty-one other states converged on Abuja to fight for medals in 15 different sports.

On the opening day of the competition, Monday 11th, Team Plateau won 1 gold, 2 bronze, to send a clear message to other contenders that itโ€™s here for business.

All the medals were won in Para-Badminton by Mary Nathan and Naomi Charles, who scooped the gold in the doubles wheelchair event after they subdued their Imo counterparts.

The other two bronze were won, one each for Naomi Charles and Peter James, in the wheelchair singles event, female and male respectively.

There is a possibility of another gold on Tuesday if result in the final of another singles event in Para-badminton, between Mary Nathan and her Abia foe favours Plateau.

In another promising result, Ayuba Puja look set to clinch at least Silver, in Para- athletics F57 shot put throw, when results of their throws are collated and analyzed on Tuesday. He had a throw of 8.89m which is the second highest throw among the competitors.

In other results of the day, the Plateau Para Soccer team was held to 1-1 draw by its fierce rival Kano, in a tension soaked match that saw the kano team narrowly escaping defeat. The two teams are strong contenders for the gold medal.

Plateau has also advanced to various stages in Para-karate and Para-table tennis.

 Meanwhile hostilities will also continue on Tuesday in Para-Swimming, Deaf football and Powerlifting.

Plateau had registered in nine out of the available fifteen sports  lined up by the Organizers, the Federal Ministry for  Youths and Sports Development.
